Experience the premiere of Malaqatin Meetings, a new symphonic work for the South Kansas Symphony and the Multifarious Trio. Part of Dr. Susan Mayoโ€™s ongoing cultural exchange project Yakja Hona, this piece fosters cultural dialogue between Pakistan and Kansas, reflecting the "sweetness, struggle, and resilience" of Mayoโ€™s own cross-cultural life. By blending Western classical structures with Eastern improvisatory traditions, the performance honors South Asian patterns through sound and sight. The three movements feature stunning visual projections by artist John Harrison, whose manipulated Pakistani designs directly inspired the music's motives and structure.

This new piece will feature cellist Susan Mayo, soprano saxophonist Courtney Long, violinist Tim Snider, and alto saxophonist Dr. Michael Christensen as soloists.

Mayo currently leads Flint Hills Counterpoint, is Executive Director of the Historic Sunflower Theatre in Peabody, and a guest lecturer atโ€ฆ
